CDC reports a Multistate outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli O157:H7 (E. coli O157:H7)
For the time being 84 cases of people infected with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 from 19 states have been reported to the CDC. 42 of them needed hospitalization and 9 of these developed hemolytic uremic syndrome; no deaths have been reported.
Investigations carried out suggest the source of the outbreak could be romaine lettuce from the Yuma, Arizona growing region. Read here CDC's advice to consumer, restaurants and retailers:
